As Rem Koolhaas stated in his essay "Delirious New York", Coney Island was a place for spatial investigations and a source of attraction for New Yorkers at the beginning of the 20th century. This idea has long been retired. Therefore our proposal attempts to reestablish the original purpose of Coney Island. It is meant to create a spatial attraction that is interesting and new while at the same time paying homage to the landmark Parachute Jump, a representation of the Coney Island that was.
The new Pavillion is conceived as a smooth translucent skin of silicone that incorporates the primary structure, a system
of lights (LEDs) and the technical conducts. Its skin will produce a diversity of sheer perspectives in different colors. The
pavillion itself will be seen as an attraction due to its transparent colors display evolving through day and night. It will be
an entertaining spectacle for visitors to see, as well as gather for public events.
